SYKETTÄ Sport courses – SPRING 2016


SYKETTÄ – sport services offers you inexpensive sport courses, workshops and get to know -classes all year round. The courses are carried out in our own sport halls or with our partners and local sport associations. You can find information about the courses from our website and Facebook-page.

Enrolling for the courses:
1 – You can enroll via the sport calendar on the frontpage of SYKETTÄ-site
2 – When you enroll for the first meeting of the course, you enroll for the whole course
3 – The enrollment can be canceled by the date given in the course info. After that the enrollment is binding and you are obliged to pay the course fee.


Sport courses coming up


Acroyoga – course – 4.4.-18.4.


WHAT? Acroyoga-course. Acroyoga is a combination of acrobatics and yoga movements with a pair. You need a partner for this course!
WHEN? Monday 4.4. 16.30-17.55, Monday 11.4. and 18.4. 17-17.55.
WHERE? Opistotie sports hall, Opistotie 1 (Savonia campus)
WHO? The instructors are Heidi Aaltonen and Ruchama Hovestadt
COURSE FEE? 10 euros/person, you’ll get the bill via e-mail.
ENROLLMENT? Via the sports calendar here. After 31.3. the enrollment is binding and you are obliged to pay the course fee. Only one person of the pair needs to enroll via the sports calendar. When you enroll for the first class, you enroll for the whole course.

Acroyoga is a combination of acrobatics and yoga movements with a pair. In most of the movements, one is a base and the other is a flyer. So basically the flyer is supported by bases legs! In acroyoga you can challenge your whole body control, including inner muscles, balance and coordination. Acroyoga is not only a surprisingly hard workout method, but yet a fun thing to do with your friend. At the same time you will learn fancy new tricks that may seem quite difficult at first. We promise that it’ll get easier!
Acroyoga suits everyone, no matter what your fitness level is. Take your friend with you and challenge your trust!

There’s room for 10 pairs (20 people). Only one person of the pair needs to enroll via the sports calendar.


Ballet for adults, beginners level – 4.4.-9.5.


WHAT? Ballet for adults, beginners level – COURSE
WHEN? On Mondays at 17:30-19:00. The first class is held on 4.4. and last on 9.5.
WHERE? Small dance class in Hermanni, Hermanninaukio 3 A, 3rd floor
WHO? The teacher is Jenna Kuivamäki, dance teacher student
COURSE FEE? 10 euros
ENROLLING? Enroll via sports calendar for the course until 31.3. You may cancel the enrollment before 31.3. After that the enrollment is binding. When you enroll for the first class, you enroll for the whole course.

On this course you practise classical ballet on a beginner level. You work on the barre and in the centre accompanied by classical and ballet music. Ballet improves co-ordination, body control, muscle tone and flexibility.

You do not need to have previous knowledge about ballet. Come with comfortable and stretchy clothes, socks and/or soft ballet shoes, exercise mat and water bottle. Teaching language is Finnish and, when needed, English.


Boffer sword fighting – 23.-24.4.2016


WHAT? It’s time for foam sword fighting or boffering! SYKETTÄ organizes sports course for you to get to know this little bit different sport. It’s about having fun, challenging yourself and getting a good sweat and laugh!
WHEN? It is a two days long course: Saturday 23.4. between 1pm and 6pm, Sunday 24.4. between 1pm and 4pm.
WHERE? Opistotie sports hall – Opistotie 2 (Savonia campus)
WHO? Paula Pirhonen is in charge of the course.
COST? If you participate with your own sword (done by the rules!) – cost is 0 euros. If you participate and do a sword in the
course – cost for the material is 10 euros.
ENROLL? Enroll via this event before 21.4. If you want to make your own sword in the course, please send an email to Paula: pirhonenpaula@gmail.com. Everyone who enrolls, has to have a SYKETTÄ-sticker paid for this spring.

Foam sword fighting (sometimes called ”boffering”) is a sport spirited sword play in which the combatants fight with foam covered weapons, which are usually self-made. No protective gear is necessary and you can always join others as long as you have weapons that have been built by the book. The rules are easy to learn.

Foam sword fighting is great for anyone over 15 years, even adults can join in.  Whether you are thick or thin, an athlete or a couch-potato foam sword fighting is a great sport and hobby nevertheless.


Burlesque – 23.-24.4.2016


WHEN? Weekend course 23.-24.4.2016. 4 x 75 minutes. Saturday 12-14:30 and sunday 12-14:30.
WHERE? Kuntokeskus HUIPPU, Maaherrankatu 21
WHO? The instructor is fabulous Sirkku Aaltonen, who goes by artist name “Lily de Spell”
COURSE FEE? 30 euros
ENROLLING? Via the sports calendar starting from 23.2. Enroll by 9.4. Enrollment is binding! You may cancel your participation before 9.4. When you enroll for the first class, you enroll for the whole course. The course will be held if there is 12 participants.

Do you need more glamour in your life? Are you interested in graceful moving, scandalous shimmies and bump’n’grind? You should get to know burlesque!

We will look into the history and present time of burlesque and start with the basic movements: posture, shimmying and bump’n’grind. We will also do walking exercises and a little bit improvisation. We will practise taking off the gloves, but that’s all we are going to strip in burlesque class. HUIPPU has gloves, you do not need to bring your own.

In the end of the course we will do a little choreography and improvise.

You do not need any previous dancing experience! Take a normal sport outfit for the course. You can have soft shoes or bare feet. You do not need any special skills or equipment, just happy mood 🙂


Get to know canoeing 15.-17.5.


WHAT? Get to know canoeing
WHEN? Sun 15.5., Mon 16.5., Tue 17.5. between 17 and 21. Time and place for Sunday will be confirmed later – there can be changes.
WHERE? In Sports club Kallan Melojat ry’s canoeing place in Savisaari
GROUP SIZE? Min. 6 persons, max. 12persons
COURSE FEE? 45e (you need to have SYKETTÄ sticker)
ENROLL? via web calendar before 29.4. You can cancel the enrollment until 29.4., after that the enrollment is binding and you are obliged to pay to course fee.

This canoeing course for beginners includes package with 3 times 4 hours instruction for getting to know canoeing. In the beginning we get to know some theory and what kind of club is “Kallan Melojat ry”. Soon we get to practise in the lake and learn how to move forward and backward, sideways and how to put on the brake. We practice capsizing (falling) in safe environment.

You need with you clothes that can go wet and also clothes to change after the falling exercise. You can’t have any shoelace outside the shoe. If you wear glasses, please make sure you have a holder to keep them in your head.

Spring camp for historical dances 13.-15.5.


Are you an admirer of old dances? Would you like to dance historical dances from the 14th century Italy, 18th century England and 19th century France? In Siilinjärvi’s Punttisilimä there will be a spring camp for historical dances. There are different workshops for both beginners and advanced dancers and a ball, where you can dance all the different dances you have learned.

With SYKETTÄ sticker the fee for the camp is 40 euros! You can enroll via the web page of the camp before 30.4. You can find more info from the camp’s page and SYKETTÄ course page.

WHAT? Spring camp for historical dances. There are different workshops for beginners and advanced dancers alike and a ball on Saturday, where you get to try everything you have learned.
WHEN? 13.-15.5.2016, starts at 17:00 on Friday.
WHERE? Siilinjärvi, Punttisilimä
WHO? The organizers are Järjestäjinä Kuopion historiallisten tanssien ryhmä, Herkko Pulkkinen ja Loviisa Lintula
COURSE FEE? 50€, with SYKETTÄ sticker only 40 euros/person. You will receive invoice to your e-mail.
ENROLLMENT? Binding enrollments and payment before 30.4. via the enrolling form at the camp’s web page.
WHAT DO YOU NEED? Clothes suitable for dacing and shoes for indoor use. For Saturday’s ball you need fancier dress suitable for the occasion, for example evening dress. If you sleep at the camp site, you need to bring with you a blanket, a pillow and  bedsheets.
