SYKETTÄ Joensuu is the sports service for students and staff at the University of Eastern Finland’s Joensuu Campus and Karelia University of Applied Sciences.
At its core is a diverse, affordable, and inclusive sports calendar: nearly 60 instructed group exercise classes and over 140 ball sports turns are offered weekly, along with access to 4 gyms. We also provide a variety of courses, sports tryouts, and physical activity tests every autumn and spring.
Our goal is an active, social, and well-being-focused university community. Join us and get moving!
SYKETTÄ ABC
A) Register as a user
Start using SYKETTÄ services by registering on our website or the mobile application (available on Android and iOS). You will need a valid university email address to register. Students use @student.uef.fi or @edu.karelia.fi address. Staff members use @uef.fi or @karelia.fi address. After registering, you will receive a username and password to log on the SYKETTÄ service.
NB! You cannot buy a membership before you have registered as a user!
B) Buy a membership
You can buy membership on our online shop, via the mobile application, or at the offices of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) and the Student Union POKA of Karelia University of Applied Sciences. Users on the Joensuu campus pay the sports fee in Joensuu.
NB! If you are a university staff member and you want access to the Aurora gym, please notify us (liikuntapaallikko@isyy.fi) or UEF (kjell.grinden@uef.fi) of your payment, then we know to open access for you.
SYKETTÄ membership is verified with a sports sticker, which is:
- The mobile sticker on the mobile application and/or
- A physical sports sticker attached to a student card, staff card, or a separate SYKETTÄ card
Download the SYKETTÄ mobile application to buy and use the mobile sticker. With the application, you can start using SYKETTÄ right away without visiting a campus office. You can use the mobile sticker instead of or alongside a physical sticker.
You can buy or pick up physical stickers from a campus office. You will need a valid student or staff card. You can pay the membership at the offices, or beforehand in our online shop or in the mobile application. If you do not have a student or staff card, you will receive a separate SYKETTÄ card with the sticker attached.
A valid membership is an absolute requirement for using the services. Always keep your sports sticker with you when using the services! Be prepared to present your sticker when requested. Mobile application users must be prepared to prove their identity (e.g. with a student card or an identity card).
C) Enroll on sports events
Users must enroll beforehand on all instructed group exercise classes, instructed and open ball sports turns and other exercise turns, free turns and family turns. Users enroll on sports events using the sports calendar on either the SYKETTÄ website or the mobile application. Enrollment always starts 7 days before the sports event begins. The “Enroll” button below the event description will be active once enrollment has started. Enrollment ends 30 minutes before the start of the sports event. Only enroll on one sports event at a time. Overlapping enrollments are treated as irrevocable enrollments.
Depending on the event, enrollment for sports courses or introductory sports classes starts 7 or 14 days before the event, depending on the event. Users do not need to enroll on gym turns or regular turns for student and staff groups.
You can check your upcoming enrollments in “My reservation calendar” section on the website by clicking the calendar icon above the sports calendar or in the mobile app by clicking the calendar icon at the bottom. Keep in mind that the number of participants is limited, and popular sports events might fill up very quickly.
New in the SYKETTÄ app! Now you can join the queue for full sports events. You can join the queue via the SYKETTÄ app’s sports calendar. Choose the sports event and click “Join the Queue” button. When you have joined the queue, you will receive a notification from the app and by email, when there is a spot available for you. If you cannot attend the sports event, remember to cancel your enrollment within the cancellation periods.
If you cannot attend a sports event, remember to cancel your enrollment via the sports calendar. An enrollment must be cancelled no later than four hours before the sports event starts. Your place is freed and someone else can attend the sports event. Enrollment on morning classes starting before 10 am must be cancelled no later than 12 hours before the class starts. A sanction policy is applied in cases of uncancelled enrollments and reservations, as specified in the Terms of Use.
The university sports services do not have insurance for SYKETTÄ users, users are responsible for their own safety while using SYKETTÄ services.
