What is Floorball League?
The student Floorball League on the Joensuu campus, better known as Säbäliiga, is one of the biggest student leagues organized by volunteers. Floorball League moves around 200 students on the Joensuu campus. Teams will enroll to series on September. Each player needs either SYKETTÄ ball games or group exercise sticker. The League will be played in two series, the Challenger and the Competitive series. The matches will be played in two rounds from October to April on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 to 2:30 pm. The idea of the Challenger series is to have fun with a low level amateur group and compete with a good attitude. The level of the Competitive series is higher and the team play and floorball skills play a big role. In addition to reputation an honor, both series compete for the brand new trophies of Säbäliiga.
Challenger and Competitive Series
The division into the Challenger and Competitive series is based on the previous year’s regular season ranking. The skills of new teams and their own wish for a series selection will be charted. If it seems that interest and skills of a new team match the Competitive series, the team will be placed directly in the Competitive series. Otherwise, the new team will be placed in the Challenger series. In the new league system, series placement is not permanent. Series placements are mixed based on the rankings of the first round. In the new league system, the last of the Competitive series and the first of the Challenger series will switch series for the second round. The score of the both teams will be zeroed and both teams will awarded double points in the second round.
Equipment and Judging
Three sets of goalkeeper’s equipment can be loaned from the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland. Judging in the regular season is traditionally handled between teams. Whistles for judging can be loaned from the ISYY office. The playoffs and the finals will be judged by judges of Finnish Floorball Federation.
