What Events Does SYKETTÄ Hold?

In addition to the regular sports services, we also organise events during the academic year. The semester starts off with the free trial period in the autumn and spring, when users can try our services free of charge. The SYKETTÄ Appro, set during the free trial period in the autumn, is a fun way to get to know the sports services. Appro participants complete sports classes to earn markings on their appro pass. Participants will be rewarded with an overall badge based on the number of markings. Additionally, participants who return their passes have a chance to win sports themed prizes.

A Sports Afternoon is held twice during the academic year, in October and February. By the decision of the university rectors, sports afternoons are lecture-free starting from 12:15 pm. The Sports Afternoon is a chance for the whole university community to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Many kinds of sports classes and special offers are available in the city for Sports Afternoon participants.

Student teams compete for the floorball championship of Joensuu universities in the Säbäliiga – Floorball League, which is played from autumn to spring. After the regular season and the playoffs, the League culminates in the finals in April. The League is played in Joensuu Areena.

Opintotukikoris – Student’s streetball tournament is organized annually and exclusively for university students. The games are played 3 versus 3 into one hoop. It does not matter whether you are a beginner or a semi-professional, this tournament is for you.

SYKETTÄ also traditionally participates in the Kilometrikisa Cycling Competition. Participants keep a log of the distances they cycle (in kilometers), and team members pool their kilometers together.

SYKETTÄ tries to organize physical activity tests twice during the academic year, in the autumn and in the spring. All students and staff of Joensuu universities can participate in the physical activity tests. The physical activity tests have two different test sets, from which you can choose the option that suits you: the low intensity tests and the active exerciser tests. Data protection records of the physical activity tests can be found here.
