Sports afternoon schedule
The Sports Afternoon is a biannual event organised by ISYY, POKA and SYKETTÄ sports services. You can participate if you are student or staff person of UEF or Karelia UAS. The purpose of the Sports Afternoon is to give our students and staff an opportunity to try new sports for a very affordable price (or for free) and to get everyone moving at least for one afternoon per semester. There will be no teaching after 12:15 pm so everyone is able to take part – and we recommend you do! There is a great choice of activities, the list of which is below. Once you have chosen what you would like to do, please remember to book yourself a place (instructions on how to book next to each activity description). We recommend you book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment – these activities tend to fill up fast.

Botania
Welcome to Winter Wonderland of Botania from 12 noon to 10 pm.
Tickets 10 €/person. Special price with student card or staff card. Same ticket allows you to visit all of Botania’s premises at opening hours.

Downhill skiing and snowboarding at Mustavaara
Welcome to Mustavaara on Sports Afternoon at 12 noon to 4 pm!
The diverse and family-friendly slopes of Mustavaara offer great skiing opportunities for skiers of all levels. The slopes are about half an hour drive from the center of Joensuu. There are also two warm huts, a rental shop and cafeteria.
- 4h (at 12 to 4 pm) lift ticket 10€/person
- 4h (at 12 to 4 pm) rental equipments 10€/person (includes ski set or snowboard set, with helmet)
Tickets and rental equipment are paid at Mustavaara. Mustavaara uses a SKIDATA port system with Skidata’s own rechargeable KeyCards. If you do not have a SKIDATA KeyCard, the price of a KeyCard is 5€.

Golf at Mehtimäki golf hall (organized by Karelia Golf)
Karelia Golf offers on sports afternoon:
1) Games with a golf simulator (2-4 people per group, 2 hours between 12noon-4pm), price 40€
2) Getting to know golf / practising 12noon-2pm, price 10€
– includes instruction, facilities and necessary equipment
– tips for firts-time players and more experienced golfers
– maximum of participants 20

Instructed backcountry skiing trip in Kontiolahti 2h (organized by Kontiolahti Outdoor)
Participate in an instructed trip into the woods with backcountry skis! Easy-to-use backcountry skis combine the best features of snowshoes and forest skis. Enjoy the peace of nature and the scenery on a peaceful ski trip. During the trip, the guide will tell you about the use and technique of the backcountry skis.
NB! There will be no common lift to the place.
Time: at 1pm-3pm
Group size: minimum 6 people, maximum 10 people
Equipment: proper clothing
Languages of instruction: Finnish or English
Suitability: for normal condition

Instructed snowshoeing trip in Lykynlampi (organized by Joensuun Latu)
Participate in an instructed snowshoeing trip in Lykynlampi! The trip is instructed by Joensuun Latu, the instruction is held both in Finnish and English. Price is 10€ and the payment is in cash on the spot (please pay with the exact change). Please dress regularly for the trip and high boots are recommended, as there is a lot of snow. Meeting in front of the Lykynlampi cafeteria at 2pm. The duration of the trip is 1,5-2h.

There is also a 5,3 km long winter trail on Lykynlampi, the starting point is next to the Lykynlampi hut. The trail is suitable for walking or mountain biking. The Lykynlampi campfire places along the trail are also in use in winter! Lykynlampi outdoor center has a free car park, and the outdoor center is also easily accessible by local bus.
Kuntokeidas
Now you have a chance to try out all sports of Kuntokeidas with very low price!
For a total price of 10 € you can try out as many sports as you want between 12noon-4pm (max 1 hour/sports). The price includes racket and bowling shoe rentals. Sports are bowling, squash, badminton, padel, billiard, air hockey, gym, table tennis, wall climbing and ninja track (at 12noon-3pm). You can also book a turn beforehand. Bookings by phone at 013 126558 or simply arriving. Calling makes sure you get to the sport you want at the time that suits you best.

Measure your strength! (organized by LUMA center)
In the lobby of Carelia building in the University of Eastern Finland, you can test how hard is your gripping strength or how high can you jump whether you are going for a lunch or visiting the library. The measurements will be done with educational computer-assisted physics measurement systems. The test are fast to undertake and require no special preparation.

Padel at Kuntokeidas
As sports afternoon extra, three padel turns in Kuntokeidas. Enrollments on the turns from 22.2. via SYKETTÄ sports calendar. Padel is a doubles game and by enrolling on this turn you can bring three friends to play with you. Every participant doesn’t have to enroll on turn, only one who books one court for their use. SYKETTÄ-users can loan padel rackets and balls from ISYY office. In Kuntokeidas racket rent is 4€/rocket and if all players rent rackets, the balls can be loaned.

Sledding
Come sledding with POKA’s board member Mervi, in charge of sports, behind ev. lut. church at 1pm-3pm! Sledges are available on the spot.

Snowshoeing independently 2h (organized by Kontiolahti Outdoor)
Go snowshoeing in Kontiolahti independently. Kontiolahti Outdoor rents snowshoes and delivers them to the starting point.

Sports afternoon extra workout: HIIT
In the HIIT class, we will raise heart rate higher with shorter workout parts. Instructed by SYKETTÄ instructor Petra. Please bring your own exercise mat. Enrollments on the class from 22.2. via SYKETTÄ sports calendar. The class is held at 4pm-5pm at Tulliportinkatu school.

Swimming

Cost: 4€/person in Vesikko swimming hall and 3€/person in Rantakylä swimming hall
Vesikko: 40 tickets for students, 40 tickets for staff. Gym included.
Rantakylä: 20 tickets for students, 20 tickets for staff. Gym included.

Tennis at KarTe tennis hall
As sports aftrenoon extra, tennis turns at KarTe tennis hall in Mehtimäki Sports Park. Enrollments on the turns from 22.2. via SYKETTÄ sports calendar. For non-cancellable and unused field reservations we charge the rent of the tennis court (16 €).

Wall climbing (organized by Ote – Climbing Centre)
Ote – Climbing Centre offers one-time climbing with a student card/staff card for 10 €, including rental shoes (normally 13 €/student and 15€/normal price).
The climbing centre is open on Sports afternoon at 12noon-9pm.
